Green Breakfast Smoothie & My New Fitness Obsession- Spin Class

“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” How many times have you heard that one? Is breakfast THE most important meal? Maybe not. BUT, how you begin your day can set you up for good or poor health choices for the rest of the day.

If you start your day with a muffin and a 1,000 calorie coffee drink, are you likely to eat really well the rest of the day? Probably not. But, if you start your morning with a delicious and nutritious smoothie- how will that set you up for the rest of the day? Making body nursing decisions first thing in the day could help catapult you into more healthful decisions all day.

Hence my return to morning smoothies. They are so tasty, easy to prepare, and can help you make better health choices for the entire day! So let me introduce you to the latest smoothie that I cannot get enough of:

What you need:

  • 1/2 an orange (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 a banana (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 spinach cubes
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1 heaping spoonful ground flax seeds
  • 1 heaping spoonful almond butter
  • splash of orange juice (makes it a bit sweeter)

What you do:

Blend and get ready for your day sipping this delicious concoction!

This smoothie is Clean-ish, and Paleo-ish (minus the splash of OJ).

Speaking of good, healthy choices- not too long ago I took my first spin class. OMG, I loved it! I know I’m a little late to this bandwagon, but what an awesome workout! I won’t lie, it was hard and scary to try. I did’t want to make a fool of myself and not be able to keep up. Half way through I was thinking, “what the hell am I doing to myself???” But by the end I couldn’t help but feel that ever sought after “runner’s high”. I’m hooked. If you are trying spin for the first time, here are my tips: don’t compete with anyone. You’re stationary, it is not a race. Get the feel for the bike and class format before you try to push yourself too hard. And just have fun! Life is boring when we don’t push ourselves outside the comfort zone and try new things!
